OKC PRIDE INC. MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of OKC Pride, Inc. is to stage a highly visible forum for the organizations which serve the Community both nationally and locally; decrease external homophobia by generating maximum media coverage to the reality of our community; and diminish internal homophobia by presenting organizational and individual role models.

Additionally, the Board of Directors believes that as a civil rights movement, gays and lesbians, bisexual, transgender, African American, Hispanic, two-spirited and other Native American individuals need an annual forum where individually and collectively we can consider where we have been, where we are now and what direction we need to set.

Today, given the political climate and positive strides made in the past year, Gay and Lesbian Pride Week has taken on a multifaceted meaning for many in our community. It is an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions to society made daily by gays and lesbians and a time to memorialize those lost to violent hate crimes and to AIDS. For many people, Gay and Lesbian Pride Day is a day of personal empowerment. Only by standing together can we make a difference. Be a part of history!
